PFAS Removal

Emerging contaminants are new or re-emerged chemicals of concern found in medicines or personal care, cleaning, lawn care, and agricultural products, that may cause adverse health or environmental impacts. These include per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), a group of dangerous emerging contaminants (EC) chemically and biologically persistent in the environment. Governments are enforcing more stringent limits down to parts per trillion (ppt) to manage the health risks to humans and wildlife.

Gradiant’s ForeverGone is the industry’s only complete all-in-one solution to permanently remove and destroy PFAS. The current best available technologies for PFAS treatment merely concentrate or transfer wastes from one medium to another, necessitating further handling and transportation for ultimate disposal by landfilling or incineration.

Traditionally, PFAS are removed by activated carbon filtration (ACF) followed by ion exchange (IX) polishing, but these methods have shortcomings. They are ineffective at removing shorter-chain PFAS compounds, and the solid wastes generated are prohibitively expensive to dispose of. Reverse Osmosis (RO) has been moderately effective in removing PFAS, but also generates a liquid concentrate waste stream that is difficult to dispose of due to higher TDS and PFAS concentrations.

ForeverGone pairs two proven technologies, Micro-Foam Fractionation and Destruction Engine, to produce water that meets or exceeds EU-wide standards of
100 ng/l for the sum of PFAS-20 as well as the more stringent limits in Denmark (2 ng/l for PFAS-4), Sweden (4 ng/l for PFAS-4) and Germany (20 ng/l for PFAS-4). The ForeverGone process is also ideally suited to eliminate PFAS from wastewater with high organics contamination such as reverse osmosis (RO) concentrate. This is particularly important in regions such as Flanders (Belgium) and Veneto (Italy), where PFAS limits for industrial wastewater discharges are already being applied.

MICRO-FOAM FRACTIONATION

Micro-Foam Fractionation technology uses billions of microbubbles to separate PFAS compounds from contaminated water, producing a highly concentrated micro-foam optimized for removal. Treated water meets EU-wide standards as well as more stringent limits in some EU countries and regions, providing a reliable path to compliance.

  • Meet stringent regulatory limits with industry leading PFAS removal for a broad range of contaminated waters, even for wastewater with organic contamination
  • Achieve the lowest operating cost PFAS removal from the industry’s most effective technology
  • ZERO waste media generated or environmental impact — no harsh chemicals, or expensive consumables, and extremely low energy requirements

DESTRUCTION ENGINE

Gradiant’s destruction technology eliminates the concentrated micro-foamate via electro-oxidation, using proprietary electrodes. This powerful technology enables the permanent destruction of all PFAS compounds, forever, ensuring a safe, reliable water supply.

  • Complete destruction of the full range of PFAS compounds
  • Leaves no trace with just harmless by-products
  • In-line destruction eliminates cost and complexity of shipping PFAS waste off-site for treatment

ForeverGone’s modular design scales easily and adapts to a robust range of feed and product water conditions. The all-in-one PFAS removal and destruction solution is available as standalone containers that can be promptly shipped, installed, and commissioned at customer sites.

We are now working with customer partners to deploy ForeverGone to their sites, offering a unique opportunity to eliminate PFAS efficiently and sustainably. Forever.
